Neighborhoods where to stay in Copenhagen
We imagine that no one is fooled by the fact that traveling to Copenhagen is fashionable. Likewise, no one should be surprised to know that accommodation in the city, unfortunately, is not the cheapest. But don’t let this discourage you because, in spite of that, the Danish capital has multiple accommodation options and among them, we are sure you will be able to find one that suits your needs.
Before choosing where to stay in Copenhagen, we recommend you to evaluate your needs and weigh up whether you prefer to waste time traveling (as well as money) or invest a little more and stay in a more central area.
Don’t know where to start? Don’t worry, to make it a little easier to decide, we leave you a selection of what are for us the best areas and some of the best accommodation options in Copenhagen.
1. Indre By, the historic center and the best place to stay in Copenhagen
Known for being the center of the city and the oldest neighborhood, this is undoubtedly the best area to sleep in Copenhagen. Being here you can walk to most of the tourist attractions of the city and you will also be surrounded by a wide cultural and gastronomic offer that will allow you to enjoy the city to the fullest.
In addition to this we want to emphasize that it is a very safe area, as is most of the city, so staying here is a safe choice.
The price of accommodation in Indre By is usually 150 euros although there are some times when you can find offers for 100 euros.
2. Vesterbro, another of the best places to sleep in Copenhagen
Although today there are still people who still associate it with its past of prostitution, it was known as the red light district, today this neighborhood is one of the best options where to stay in Copenhagen due to its proximity to the most central area of the city and for being also very close to the Central Train Station.
Besides this, it is a more economical area than Indre By, has good communication with public transport and a wide range of dining options in addition to being a very lively area, both day and night.
The price of accommodation in Vesterbro is usually 80 euros.
3. Christianshavn
Although for us it is not the most suitable area to stay in Copenhagen, this area of the city has recently become a good alternative to sleep in Copenhagen if you are looking for a quiet place, with good atmosphere and close to the main tourist attractions of the city.
Also here you can find Christiania, the free city, which is actually a neighborhood where about 1000 people live and is partially self-governed by themselves.
Here you can also enjoy a good gastronomic offer and a district where you can stroll among canals and colorful houses, which will take you to another era.
The price of accommodation in Christianshavn is usually quite limited and prices often exceed 150 euros.
4. Frederiksberg, another option to look for a hotel in Copenhagen
Known for being one of the trendiest areas of the city, Frederiksberg is another of the most demanded options for sleeping in Copenhagen by travelers who come to the city looking for good atmosphere combined with the tranquility of a residential neighborhood.

Here you will find the Frederiksberg Palace and several green areas as well as a good gastronomic offer and good communication with the rest of the city.
The price of accommodation in Frederiksberg is usually 100 euros.
5. Østerbro
Located near the most central area of the city we find Østerbro, a residential area known for its walking areas and for being the place where you can find The Little Mermaid, one of the places you can not miss in the city and Fælledparken, one of the most important green spaces in the city.
Being quite close to Indre By this is a good option to stay in Copenhagen if you are looking for a quiet and more affordable place. Keep in mind that being a residential area the restaurant offer is quite reduced so you may not end up being compensated in the end.
The price of accommodation in Østerbro is usually 100 euros.
6. Nørrebro, Copenhagen’s multicultural district
Known for being one of the most bohemian neighborhoods of the city, which welcomes travelers and residents from around the world, this area is one of the most recommended to sleep in Copenhagen if you want to see another side of the city and also not spend so much on accommodation.
Here you can enjoy Nørrebrogade, the main artery of the neighborhood where most stores and restaurants are concentrated. If you stay here it is important to know that the areas of Mimersparken and the station are not very recommendable, especially after sunset.
The price of accommodation in Nørrebro is usually 100 euros.
