Finding where to stay in Mykonos is not an easy task and even more if we take into account that the island is relatively large and has different areas where to stay depending on what you are looking for and how is your trip.
According to our experience, the best option where to sleep in Mykonos is Chora, which is the capital and the place where most of the tourist attractions are located. In case you have a car and want to stay in another area or near a beach, you have different options on the island, which we will explain in this post.
Based on our visit to the island, during our 32-day trip to Greece, in which we wrote this guide to Mykonos, we leave you a selection of places to stay in Mykonos and the best areas. Let’s get started!
Places to stay in Mykonos
The first thing you should know is that within the island of Mykonos there are different options for accommodation. We would divide these into two: Chora if you want to know the capital and the most cultural area, where most attractions are concentrated or opt for one of its beaches, if your trip to Mykonos is more focused on this style of travel or want to enjoy the night of Mykonos.
Whichever option you choose, in this post we let you know what are the advantages and disadvantages of each of them and what are our recommendations where to stay in Mykonos, one of the best Greek islands, which we are sure you will fall in love with.
1. Chora, the best place to stay in Mykonos
If you want to sleep in Mykonos in a charming place with the best sunsets and close to everything, without a doubt, Chora or Mykonos Town should be your choice. This is the capital of the island and the place where you will find most of the places to see in Mykonos such as the Kato Milli Windmills, the charming neighborhood of Kastro, the Panagia Paraportiani Church, known to be one of the most photographed places on the island or Little Venice, among many others.
In addition to its excellent location, Chora has public transportation to move around the rest of the tourist attractions of the island, including the most famous beaches, although after our experience we recommend whenever you can, book a rental car in Mykonos, it is practically essential to move with total freedom of schedules and movements.
If we add to that that it is one of the most atmospheric spots of the island and with more hotel and restaurant infrastructure, it is clear that Chora is the best place to stay in Mykonos, right?
Another thing to keep in mind is that Chora is relatively large and in some areas the slopes are quite considerable, so if you do not want to get too tired, it is advisable to look for accommodation in the lower part or near the famous mills.
And if you are making a route through different islands, it is from the port of Chora from where you will have to take the ferry or where you will arrive from another island, so having your hotel in Mykonos here, will allow you to move much more easily.
The price of accommodation in Chora is usually 100 euros per night although in low season you can find hotels at a lower price.
2. Paradise Beach, the best place to sleep in Mykonos if you want to enjoy the night and the party of the island
Although this was not our goal of the trip, we know that many travelers come to the island to enjoy the nightlife, the atmosphere and the party that is on many of the beaches of Mykonos. If this is your case, the best known area is Paradise Beach, which is currently arguably the best place to stay in Mykonos if you want to enjoy the party.
The bad thing about this area is that there are not many options for accommodation and not many restaurants, so we think it is only recommended if you want to give it all the days of your stay in Mykonos and you do not care much about the cultural part.
In case you do not want to stay here, from Chora there are buses during the day and night that take you to the beach so you can enjoy it at any time of the day.
The price of accommodation in Paradise Beach is usually 80-100 euros per night.
3. Ornos, another option where to look for a hotel in Mykonos
Although it is not our favorite area to stay in Mykonos, it is one of the most sought after by travelers who want a cheaper accommodation but still have a good location. In this case Ornos meets these requirements as it is about 3 kilometers from Chora and also has a pretty good beach that is very quiet and family friendly.
This area has a good offer of hotels and restaurants and is well connected with the rest of the island by public transport, so it is another option to consider for accommodation in Mykonos.
The price of accommodation in Ornos is usually 60 euros per night.
4. Platis Gialos, the best beaches of Mykonos
If you are looking for a good beach, our recommendation is to look for a hotel in Platis Gialos, as this is one of the best areas to stay in Mykonos. In addition to the wide range of accommodation, many of them for high budgets, you will have a variety of restaurants and good combinations with public transport to go to the rest of the tourist areas of the island.

And if you have a car or you want to take a walk, you can make some route to nearby beaches, as or more beautiful than Platis Gialos, such as Paraga or Psarou.
The price of accommodation in Platis Gialos is usually 100 euros per night.
Tips for finding cheap accommodation in Mykonos
Although we hope that after the recommendations we have left you about places to stay in Mykonos and the selection of the best hotels in each of them, it will not be difficult to choose, we want to leave you some extra tips and recommendations to make the choice as easy and comfortable as possible.
- Remember that it is important to be clear about the purpose of your trip to decide which is the best option to stay in Mykonos. If you are looking to be close to all the attractions and in the most charming place, Chora is the best option. If you are looking for a quiet beach place, we would opt for Platis Gialos and if you are looking to enjoy the party and the nightlife of Mykonos, the best area is Paradise Beach.
- Something also very important to keep in mind is that Mykonos is one of the most expensive islands especially in high season, so it is important to book as far in advance as you can to have more options and better prices.
- Remember that to avoid paying commissions and to always have the current exchange rate we recommend you to use the Revolut card and the N26 card, which are the ones we use, are free of charge and will save you a lot of money.
