Based on the days we spent in the city, during the trip to Austria by rental car, of which we have also written several guides, as Vienna Guide in 3 days we leave you a selection of places to stay in Vienna and the best neighborhoods. Let’s get started!
Neighborhoods where to stay in Vienna
As we mentioned before, there are many options for accommodation in Vienna as well as several recommended areas in the city to do so. That is why we want to leave you a selection of the best ones for us and a brief selection of hotels that we believe will help you to make your choice faster and more comfortable to spend the maximum time to organize your trip and above all, enjoy the city.
Vienna is divided into 23 bezirkes or districts, being Innere Stadt, district 1 and the historical center of the city and districts 2 to 9, which surround the center and are also very good options to stay in Vienna.
1. Innere Stadt, the historic center and the best place to stay in Vienna
Considered as the old part of the city, Innere Stadt is the best place to sleep in Vienna, since besides having many of the most important tourist attractions of the city, such as the Opera, the Cathedral, the National Library or the City Hall, it has a good offer of restaurants and you can move on foot to most of the places you want to visit in the city.
Keep in mind that being the historic center this area is the most expensive in the city. Although honestly, according to our experience, it is worth it.
The price of accommodation in Innere Stadt is usually around 100 euros per night.
2. Leopoldstadt another place to sleep in Vienna
Leopoldstadt in District 2 is on the opposite side of the Danube River and is much quieter than District 1 or Innere Stadt. Although it does not have many tourist attractions nearby, only the Prater, it is less than 15 minutes walk from the Cathedral, so it can be a perfect alternative to stay in Vienna if your budget is tighter but you want to be close to everything.
Another plus is that the bus to the airport stops at Morzinplatz.
The price of accommodation in Leopoldstadt is usually around 60 euros per night.
3. Landstrasse, another option to stay in Vienna
In District 3 we find Landstrasse which is in the southeast area of Innere Stadt and has some of the most important attractions of the city such as the Belvedere Palace, Hundertwasserhaus and the Schwarzenberg Palace as well as having a wide selection of restaurants, cafes and stores.
Another of its attractions is that it is very close to the Wien Hauptbanhof, the main train station, which makes it a perfect location to stay in Vienna if you have extra days and want to do some of the most recommended tours and excursions from Vienna.
The price for accommodation in Landstrasse is usually around 50 euros per night.
4. Wieden, another place to look for a hotel in Vienna
Although not the most central of all, Wieden in District 4 is also a great choice for a hotel in Vienna as it is quite close to the museum area, the Opera and Hofburg. Also, like Landstrasse it is very close to the Wien Hauptbanhof, the main train station, so you can easily get around the city and the surrounding area.
This area is much quieter than the previous ones we have talked about although most accommodations have quite high prices for the area in which they are located and for not being the best area to stay in Vienna.
The price of accommodation in Wieden is usually around 50 euros per night.
5. Neubau, an alternative way to find accommodation in Vienna
In the 7th district we find Neubau which is currently one of the most frequented areas by travelers looking to enjoy the cultural life of the city.
Although for us it is not the best area to stay in Vienna, despite being close to the Museumsquartier or museum district, here in addition to great accommodation and restaurants, you will find a lot of atmosphere and the beautiful Spittelberg district.
The price of accommodation in Neubau is usually about 50 euros per night.

- If the trip to Vienna is in high season or coincides with holidays or December, when many travelers visit the city to enjoy one of the best Christmas markets in Europe, it is highly recommended to book your accommodation in advance to have more options and find better prices.
